A senior US legislative Democrat significant on China and tech policy criticised United States President Donald Trump ‘s management for its rescission of an AI diffusion policy on Friday, calling the step a “horrible concept” that would ultimately benefit China.
“They’re retracting prohibitions on whom we can market one of the most sophisticated semiconductor chips to on the planet, and among them remains in the Center East ,” stated United States congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, an Illinois Democrat and placing participant of the House Select Board on the Chinese Communist Party
“And so, we will sell one of the most advanced semiconductor chips in the world to business in the UAE and in Saudi Arabia , which is a terrible idea,” he proceeded.
“They’re just mosting likely to sell that things and make it readily available to the Chinese.”
The guideline in question, called the “structure for artificial intelligence diffusion”, was released days prior to completion of the Joe Biden administration in January. It was suggested to limit global access to AI chips and set to enter impact on May 15
